PITTSBURGHERS know that Mount Washington is named for the first president, who as a young officer in the service of the Virginia governor, gazed upon the forks of the Ohio, setting in motion a series of events that would lead to the founding of this city. That's one reason that it is fitting to have Washington depicted in a 750-pound bronze monument that will be officially unveiled this week on Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington. It's nicer still that the monument also depicts the Seneca leader Guyasuta, because history didn't start with the descendants of Europeans. The work, which was sculpted by local developer James West, was given to the city as a gift -- and it is a welcome addition.
